Companies worldwide are confronted with challenges they’ve never seen before. Leading companies go al- most bankrupt in six to eight quarters. Think of the Nokia’s, Goldman Sachs and RIM’s of this world. Others come out of near bankruptcy and grow into the number 1 company worldwide. Think of Apple.

Some of the solutions from last century are no longer valid in this environment. It is no longer enough to develop a number of competencies. We need to rewire the brain. Evidence shows that agile moving into the new business-world environment, largely benefits from brainware.

There are two specific ways to tackle major challenges: incremental change (Kaizen) or root cause analysis (Business Process Redesign). Both approaches are valuable. However there is a difference. Sustainable change is based on root cause analysis. The core of change lies in attitudes, driving internalized values that in the end make the difference.

Recent brain research shows how the wiring of the brain has a huge impact on what people are able and willing to do. It takes a while until this scientific knowledge becomes common knowledge and -sense.

We witnessed many types of scientific research that turned into commodities: light bulbs, nuclear plants, all types of medication, smartphones.

It is time to transform the results of brain research into practical, applicable tangible instruments for the business world.
